CISQ Launches State of the Nation Survey on Software Quality Analysis

COMPREHENSIVE STUDY TO ASSESS AND ADDRESS TRENDS IN SOFTWARE QUALITY

NEEDHAM, MA – August 5, 2019 – The Consortium for Information & Software Quality™ (CISQ™), an IT industry leadership group that develops standards for automating software quality measurement, today announced the opening of its State of the Nation Survey on Software Quality Analysis, the first comprehensive study of software quality analysis comprising tool vendors, system integrators, managers and engineers at end-user organizations.

“All indicators point to a crisis in IT when it comes to software security and systems quality,” said David Norton, Executive Director, CISQ and lead author of the survey. “Globally, there are increased numbers of cyber incidents and IT outages and companies large and small are struggling with high levels of technical debt. With this study, we’re looking to see how the move to agile software development and DevOps is changing not only software quality practices, but also developer attitudes and behavior when it comes to code quality,” continued Norton. “We’re also looking to see how software quality standards are being utilized by systems integrators and end-user organizations, which standards are being used and how organizations are deriving value from the standards. We need to see where the gaps are regarding software quality standards so CISQ and others can start to fill those gaps.”

The State of the Nation survey will assess trends in software development and software quality analysis with a summary report released in the fall. The survey will identify the advocates for software quality analysis in each organization, examine where software quality analysis is leveraged in the development toolchain and with third parties, and produce findings regarding market maturity, tool support and standards for software quality. Survey participants will receive a copy of the report and the report will be published on CISQ’s website.

CISQ is sending the survey to its membership and is also targeting broader, industry-wide participation, including:
