Dr. Bill Curtis, Executive Director, Consortium for IT Software Quality (CISQ)
The OMG Technical meeting this past week in Reston, Virginia (DC area) was very productive for CISQ.
- On Monday, March 18, the Automated Source Code Quality Measures specification that extends the CISQ Quality Characteristic Measures to embedded software was approved as a standard by the OMG Architecture Board. We will spend the next couple of months finalizing the document so that it can be approved at the June OMG meeting in Amsterdam for publication. https://www.omg.org/public_schedule/
- On Tuesday, March 19, CISQ held a meeting attended by 8 interested parties to discuss the feasibility of launching a project to extend the CISQ quality measures into the Model-Based Software Engineering space. The discussion was very positive and I will produce a prospectus next week based on the comments in the meeting and subsequent email discussion.
- On Wednesday, March 20, OMG’s Software Assurance Task Force hosted Dr. Allan Friedman from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration who is leading an industry/government project to establish a foundation for software transparency. A core component of this effort is a Software Bill Of Materials (SBOM). Bob Martin of MITRE also made a presentation on potential information for an SBOM, and CISQ offered to sponsor a standard through OMG if the NTIA effort produces a specification.
